Career Goals
Within the next year, my primary professional goal is to obtain my LMSW licensure by completing all application requirements, preparing thoroughly, and passing the state licensing exam. In my current role as Assistant Director of Student Experience at Chattanooga State Community College, I will continue to expand programming that fosters student engagement, cultural awareness, and leadership development. I will also strengthen my expertise in grant work and higher-education project coordination, ensuring that student experience initiatives are inclusive, impactful, and well-aligned with institutional priorities. Academically, I plan to research and identify doctoral programs in Leadership or Higher Education Policy that fit my professional trajectory, with the goal of beginning my doctoral studies within the next two years.
Over the next five years, I plan to earn or be in the midst of a PhD program, focusing my research on higher-education leadership, student success, and organizational development. My goal is to transition into a senior-level leadership position in higher education—such as a Dean or Executive Director—where I can oversee student engagement, equity initiatives, and community partnerships. I will continue applying my social work knowledge and LMSW licensure to my work, integrating trauma-informed and equity-driven practices into higher-education policies and programs. Additionally, I plan to contribute to the field through publications and conference presentations on topics related to leadership, student belonging, and program effectiveness.
In ten years, I envision myself serving as either an Associate Vice President of Student Life/Affairs or as a professor of social work, blending my leadership experience with my passion for teaching and mentoring the next generation of professionals. In this capacity, I will continue advancing institutional strategies that promote access, equity, and belonging for all students while fostering innovation in program delivery and student engagement. I also plan to mentor emerging leaders in both higher education and social work, ensuring a strong pipeline of professionals equipped to meet the evolving needs of diverse student populations.
Self-Care Plan
To sustain my personal well-being and professional effectiveness, I will prioritize intentional self-care. I will maintain physical health by engaging in regular exercise at least three times per week and making healthy dietary choices. I will also attend regular medical check-ups and dental visits.
Emotionally, I will remain connected to my support network of friends and family and participate in activities that bring joy and reduce stress. One of those activities is hosting a weekly brunch where my friends are invited to share a meal, a laugh, and genuine time together.
I will establish and protect clear work-life boundaries by setting defined start and end times to my workday and taking breaks to prevent burnout. I will also commit to professional renewal by attending at least one annual conference of my choosing, leadership retreat, or networking event that provides both growth opportunities and personal inspiration. Finally, I will incorporate reflective practices such as journaling, mindfulness, and prayer to stay grounded, purpose-driven, and resilient in my leadership role.
