This competency helps ensure that social workers understand that every individual has fundamental human rights such as freedom, safety, privacy, an adequate standard of living, health care, and education. By meeting this competency I demonstrate that I understand my duty to advocate for these fundamental human rights. As a social worker I vow to apply my understanding of social, economic, and environmental justice to advocate for human rights at the individual and system levels and engage in practices that advance social, economic, and environmental justice.
Competency:
Advance Human Rights and Social, Economic and Environmental Justice
Practice Behaviors:
1. Apply their understanding of social, economic, and environmental justice to advocate for human rights at the individual and system levels.
2. Engage in practices that advance social, economic, and environmental justice.
Evidence Based Learning:
1. I demonstrated this practice behavior in practicum by identifying one policy that oppresses or discriminates the clients I serve. In the classroom I demonstrated this by recognizing policy that affect our population, and advocating for these rights in Washington, D.C. This is the flyer my group created to advocate for human rights. I also attended the holocaust museum in which I focused on the maltreatment of these individuals and what we can do as social workers to ensure such tragedy never happens again.

2. In order to fulfill the requirements for this practice behavior, I identified one policy within my agency that oppressed my clients and I suggested improvements. In the classroom I demonstrated this by going to Washington, D.C. and presenting the flyer above.
