By conducting assessments, the social worker knows how to meet the needs of the clients. This competency helps ensure that social workers understand that assessment is an ongoing component of social work practice. This competency also helps ensure that social workers are meeting their responsibility to client rights and autonomy. To meet this competency I used application as the cognitive domain and receiving as the affective domain. The theories utilized are self-discrepancy theory and regret theory. By meeting this competency I demonstrate that I understand methods of assessment with diverse clients and constituencies to advance practice effectiveness. As a social worker I vow to be aware that my personal experiences and reactions may affect my assessment and decision-making.

Competency:

Assess Individuals, Families, Groups, Organizations, and Communities

Practice Behaviors:

7.1 Formulate comprehensive assessments, using a variety of diagnostic classification systems

Field Evidence: I demonstrated this practice behavior by gathering information on various suicide assessment tools and creating a framework to identify when students are experiencing suicidal ideations. This is a great tool for many students and families because through many assessments conducted, it was discovered that a lot of them have food insecurity.
