\"\" My name is Amanda Hershberger. I am an MSW student in my Advanced year at Southern.\u00a0 I interned at Helen Ross McNabb Center where I practiced individual therapy sessions with Medicare recipients, lead intensive outpatient groups for pregnant women who were actively using substances while pregnant and\/or moms of children who were born with substances in their systems, and teaching in a peer support group setting for group home members who struggle with mental illness.\u00a0 I love advocating for and helping other people by empowering them to overcome obstacles in their path. I am a mother of one 19-year-old daughter, wife, and caretaker of my mother. I got into social work because of advocating on my daughter’s behalf in school systems so that she could receive necessary services, such as social skills training and behavioral interventions to assist teachers in helping her better. I am a follower of Islam, or a Muslim, as you may have already guessed. My love for God and helping others guide me in my professional and personal life when interacting with others. I strive to be a better version of myself every day and continue learning more throughout life. As a Muslim Social Worker, it is my duty to serve God and do good unto others by serving humanity. I can do this by respecting all worldviews and utilizing a person-centered approach when interacting with clients. God commands justice and good conduct and forbids immorality, bad conduct, and oppression (Quran 16:90).<\/span><\/p>\n
