Welcome! My name is Amber Bowes and I am a BSW graduate from Southern Adventist University. I did my senior internship at Partnership for Families, Children, and Adults in the Rape Crisis Center. At Partnership, I provided crisis counseling for survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault through our 24\/7 hotline service, I performed intake assessments for clients who experienced sexual assault, and I worked as an advocate for clients performing follow-ups and providing clients with services such as helping them obtain order of protections, accompanying them to court, and providing them with counseling referrals.<\/span><\/p>\n

My career goals include working with and advocating for youth in school systems or in non-profit organizations. In a year, my goal is to be working on my MSW at Southern Adventist University with a focus in school social work. In five years, I hope to be established in a school setting where I can work with and advocate for youth. In ten years, I hope to possibly create my own non-profit organization to help advocate for vulnerable populations.\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

My mission is to be a voice for vulnerable populations who may otherwise go unheard. I aim to empower individuals to persevere through challenging situations that are beyond their control.\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

My practice will be grounded in empathy, which will allow me to connect with individuals on a deeper, more personal level creating a foundation of trust and understanding, crucial to their healing journey. I am specifically passionate about serving victims of sexual assault and domestic violence. Through the experiences of my internship, I have seen the extreme impact of these ordeals and the benefits of advocacy. Furthermore, I aim to work with youth, inspiring their personal growth so they can reach their goals, develop confidence in their abilities, and become successful, ambitious individuals who contribute to society. I aspire to create an environment where youth have a purpose and feel they are not alone; a place where they are valued and respected. Finally, I hope to combat the school-to-prison pipeline by advocating for discipline policies that understand the deeper needs of students and that focus on rehabilitation rather than criminalization.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n
