Social workers understand theories of human behavior, person-in-environment, and other interprofessional conceptual frameworks, and they critically evaluate and apply this knowledge in selecting culturally responsive interventions with clients and constituencies, including individuals, families, groups, organizations, and communities. Social workers understand methods of identifying, analyzing, and implementing evidence-informed interventions and participate in interprofessional collaboration to achieve client and constituency goals. Social workers facilitate effective transitions and endings. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif;font-size: 12pt\"><strong>Social workers: <\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif;font-size: 12pt\">engage with clients and constituencies to critically choose and implement culturally responsive, evidence-informed interventions to achieve client and constituency goals; and <\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif;font-size: 12pt\">incorporate culturally responsive methods to negotiate, mediate, and advocate with and on behalf of clients and constituencies.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif;font-size: 12pt\">Intervening is where social workers implement relevant interventions aimed at addressing specific issues, building on strengths, and promoting positive outcomes for individuals, families, groups, organizations, and communities. This competency&#8217;s goal is for social workers to produce positive change through the culturally sensitive interventions that they implement. Some examples of interventions that I plan to use include counseling, advocacy, support groups, programs, and implementation of policies. This competency challenges me to remain informed on current intervention approaches appropriate for the unique needs of the diverse people I serve. I will accomplish this through evidence informed research and collaboration with social work professionals. I am committed to continue practicing this competency by implementing evidence-based interventions that are culturally sensitive and relevant to my clients. I will advocate for individuals to have a voice on intervention approaches so they can be actively involved in their healing journey.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif;font-size: 12pt\">During the school years I engaged in a variety of activities that helped me develop mastery of this competence. I have completed assignments that have helped me in my development of competency eight and have practiced competency eight in my practicum setting.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif;font-size: 12pt\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"><strong>School Work:<\/strong> Case Presentation\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif;font-size: 12pt\"><a href=\"https:\/\/swpro.org\/ambowes\/files\/2024\/04\/Case-Presentation.pdf\">Case Presentation Link<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif;font-size: 12pt\">I conducted a case presentation on a client from my internship for my Integrative Seminar II class. This client\u2019s presenting problems included trauma from being sexually assaulted, mental health struggles, needing help to get out of the Hamilton County Choices Program, needing help relocating schools, and needing family stability. I looked at the client\u2019s needs and created treatment goals. I then brought this case to my classmates and we worked together to create an intervention plan. I informed my classmates that we would be looking at how to get kids out of the Hamilton County Choices Program and exploring resources to help families get reliable transportation when there are no bus routes available to them. I developed skills in collaboration through working with my classmates to find valuable resources. My classmates and I found that United Way offers transportation services. I was able to bring this knowledge back to my internship, establishing an intervention plan so that the client could get reliable transportation. The intervention process required the utilization of critical thinking skills in the development of a targeted intervention that meets specific client needs.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif;font-size: 12pt\"><strong>Field:<\/strong> Follow-Ups\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif;font-size: 12pt\"><a href=\"https:\/\/swpro.org\/ambowes\/files\/2024\/04\/Screenshot-Tevera-8-pdf.pdf\">Journal Link<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif;font-size: 12pt\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">I conduct regular<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> follow ups with my clients at Partnership. I typically follow-up with my clients every other week, and sometimes more with higher need clients. Follow-ups include checking on how my clients are doing, and seeing if there are any services they may need. I have helped my clients by completing counseling referrals for them, explaining the process of obtaining an order of protection to them, helping them to find counseling options in their area, and supporting them through the extremely hard time they are facing. As a social worker, I believe that every person deserves equal rights and justice for any injustices they may face, and through these interventions, clients receive the advocacy, support, and assistance they deserve to aid them in their healing journey. Through follow-ups, I\u2019ve gained a deeper understanding of the diverse needs that my clients face. I practiced my skills in cultural competence when engaging with clients from diverse backgrounds, making sure to respect their personal values and beliefs. I utilized communication skills to create an inclusive environment where clients feel safe to share their needs and feelings. Through this competence, I have practiced skills in advocacy by helping my clients access resources and assert their rights to justice.\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif;font-size: 12pt\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"><strong>Other Evidence:<\/strong> SSD Paper\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif\"><a href=\"https:\/\/swpro.org\/ambowes\/files\/2024\/04\/SSD-Paper.pdf\">SSD Paper Link<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif;font-size: 12pt\">For my Research Methods I class, I created a pseudo-client relevant to the work that I am performing at my internship. This pseudo-client had faced domestic violence and sexual assault as well as PTSD and depression. I created a targeted intervention plan for this client to nurture healing and positive change in her life. The intervention that I used was evidence-based and trauma-informed. This intervention was aimed at addressing her specific issues, building her strengths, and promoting positive outcomes for her. This assignment pushed me to use my critical thinking skills, research skills, problem solving skills, and assessment skills which are all critical to a successful intervention plan. I chose this assignment because it demonstrates the value of social justice. I believe that each client deserves the right to mental health care and support through their healing journey.
