Implement culturally-informed strategies with diverse populations
In Advanced Clinical Practice: Individuals and Families, we had a project with a partner to create a case conceptualization for an imaginary client. This assignment very much needed to be focused on cultural factors and diversity and we had to use the social work knowledge of cultural competence. The whole project was culturally informed but particularly we had to incorporate culturally informed treatment strategies and focused on the social work value of dignity and the worth of the person. In coming up with a treatment plan for this individual, we had to use the cognitive processes of understanding and applying to come up with a treatment that can also implement this clients cultural background and used the affective process of valuing in recognizing and respecting this clients diversity of values and practices within her cultural community. The theoretical foundation that was used was Family Systems Theory since we focused a lot on the intergenerational trauma as well as the interactions and relationships between our client and her family.
