Engage with systems utilizing evidence-based practice strategies
In my Advance Clinical Practice: Group Psychotherapeutic Skills (SOCW 617) class, we had an assignment. where we made a group therapy demonstration video. We had to plan all aspects of the group therapy including evidence-based practices regarding our choice of activities that were going to be used, incorporating the social work values of the importance of human relationships and competence. I used my social work knowledge of clinical evidence-based skills to choose both the theoretical foundations of CBT skills-based activities as well as a mindfulness for my panic attack therapy group. During this practice session, I used the group therapy techniques of encouraging eye contact (0:57), discussing expectations for the group (1:25), the use of dyads (1:38), and rounds (3:12), to be able to best engage with the group members and for them to engage with each other. The cognitive processes that I used were applying, understanding, and remembering, and the affective processes used were organization and characterization.
