Career Goals:
I want to be in either one of these two positions: part of a leadership position in an agency or as a mentor for students in school or as a professor.
1 Year Plan:
I want to pursue licensing within my first year of employment post graduation. I will apply through the state of New York and take the exam to become an LMSW. Simultaneously, I intend to apply and work as a mental health consultant with Head Start. I am also in communication with the principal of an academy about a potential employment opportunity to provide counselling services for their students and assistance for their administrative tasks.
5 Year Plan:
Within five years, I would want to hold some form of supervisor position. I would want to be mentoring my staff and motivating them to get ahead in life. In return, their work quality will reflect and have an impact on their clients. I also plan to make 6 figures with my income and investments all together. This will be a bit more difficult for me if I continue to live in a rural area, but regardless, it is a nice milestone to achieve in my professional life.
10 Year plan:
I’ll be 41 and that is frightening. I plan to be more experienced in my career and hold an executive position – either as an assistant or executive director. If not that, I would at least hope to be working as a professor or an administrator in a school.
Philosophy:
I am a simple person and I don’t have much brand loyalties besides Southwest Airlines and Arizona Raspberry Tea. In my life, I will put God first and rely on Him, I will do things for the benefit of my family, I will stay out of debt, I will only work jobs I enjoy, and I will not take work home.
Self-Care:
Being a simple person, I don’t need to do much to refresh my mental well-being. I like to find the simple pleasures in life and do them. This can be taking a day off to nap on my couch in the afternoon, or going on a walk with my child on a clear day. That is it – I don’t need much. As long as I have the freedom to do things that I enjoy, like buying a slushy when I crave one, my mental well-being will be okay. For self-care, I’ll maintain a consistent workout schedule, eat at a restaurant every now, travel on vacations every so often, and find things that are priced cheap. However, with an expected price increase upon my new position and having a masters, I want to buy some expensive things. I have been intentional with my money for a long while, but I want to be a bit reckless and buy some nice expensive items that are not second hand to immediately help with self care needs. Foremost, I want to buy a new king size, Tempur-Pedic, sleep number mattress. Other pleasurable items I will like to buy are a king sized grill, a camper, and a boat. This will all be done without financing.
