Self-Care Philosophy
As a social work professional, I believe that sustainable service to others begins with showing up for myself. My self-care is not a luxury; it is a commitment to preserving my mental clarity, emotional balance, and sense of purpose. I see self-care as an ethical responsibility that allows me to practice with integrity, empathy, and presence.
My self-care plan includes:
Emotional Stewardship
I give myself permission to feel deeply but will practice strategies to release emotional weight after difficult interactions. Journaling, debriefing with colleagues, and setting limits on emotional labor help me stay grounded.
Spiritual and Personal Alignment
I carve out quiet time each week to reflect on my values, purpose, and growth. Whether through prayer, meditation, or journaling, this practice reconnects me with the “why” behind my work.
Support and Solidarity
I lean into my personal and professional support systems—mentors, peers, and friends—who hold space for me when the work feels heavy. I do not isolate myself in times of struggle.
Rest as Resistance
I normalize rest in my daily and weekly rhythm. That includes quality sleep, tech-free downtime, and breaks that allow my nervous system to reset.
Joy and Expression
I create space for what brings me joy. Whether it’s cooking, dancing, traveling, or trying something new, I honor the parts of me that thrive outside of work.
