Social workers understand that assessment is a crucial part of social work practice.Meeting this competency means demonstrating assessment through diverse clients and constituencies to advance practice effectiveness. As a social worker I vow to be aware that my personal experiences and reactions may affect my assessment and decision-making.

- Apply knowledge of human behavior and the social environment, person-in-environment, and other multidisciplinary theoretical frameworks in the analysis of assessment data from clients and constituencies.
- Develop mutually agreed-on intervention goals and objectives based on the critical assessment of strengths, needs, and challenges within clients and constituencies.
- Select appropriate intervention strategies based on the assessment, research, knowledge, and values and preferences of clients and constituencies.
Academic Evidence:
I had the opportunity to write a Bio-psycho-social paper that reflected on my personal upbringing. I also talked about my own personal assessment and applied different theories about my childhood and my family. I was able to talk about my family and influences that have shaped me into the person I am today.
Practicum Evidence:
I had the opportunity to do an interview with a family and also fill out a genogram to keep in the records, in case it was needed. This genogram was used to see if there is any family support in case the children needed it. I also have had the chance to read intakes on diverse situations and cases. Through each case I was able to assess the situation and analyze this with a case manager or instructor. I was also able to show my field instructor a safety plan that I had written and analyzed at a home visit.
