Competency 9: Evaluate Practice with Individuals, Families, Groups, Organizations, and Communities

Description:

Social workers understand that evaluation is a key component in the process of the interaction with diverse individuals, families, groups, organizations, and communities. Social workers are aware that evaluating the client’s progress and outcomes can lead to the effectiveness of the practice, the policy, and the services provided.  During an evaluation of outcomes, social workers tend to apply information of the client’s human behavior and the social environment, person-in-environment, and other multidisciplinary theoretical frameworks.

Practice Behaviors:

  • Select evidence-based evaluation strategies according to their efficacy with specific client systems
  • Evaluate the efficiency and effectiveness of practice outcomes across systems

9A Evidence: Select evidence-based evaluation strategies according to their efficacy with specific client systems

Course: During my graduate year, I was able to complete multiple trainings and earn certificates. One specific training that helped me learn different strategies that would benefit my clients was the Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) training. I was able to learn more about debriefing sessions and how it can assist my clients.

Field: At my internship, I was able to sit down with my supervisor and my field instructor once every week. During the first week of February, I discussed with my supervisor different strategies to use in order to better assist my clients. Those strategies are listed in my February Journal Week 1.

9B Evidence: Evaluate the efficiency and effectiveness of practice outcomes across systems

Course: While at Southern, I was able to conducted a 20 minute CBT session. After the session was complete, I was able to transcript it and evaluate my performance. I became aware of what went well and what needed to be worked on. Here is the link to my transcript Marie Ray-20min Video TranscriptCorrections and here is the video that goes along with it.

Field: During my internship, I was able to keep track of each of my client’s files. In each file states what was discussed and the homework that was assigned. Once my client returns we go over the previous homework and discuss if it was helpful or not. I was able to document in my February Journal on Week 2 the progress that was being made due to the certain homework that was given. We were able to evaluate the efficiency of the assignment.
