1A Evidence: Develop a practice framework for analysis of complex environments, that is ethical, value-grounded, and evidenced-based
- Course: As a Social Worker, it is extremely important to uphold the importance of ethics and evidenced-based research. During my time in undergrad and graduate school, I’ve learned the value of one’s own work. By completing my CITI Training, it included modules that focused on the ethics of evidenced-based research.
1B Evidence: Implement supervisory and self-care strategies that integrate professional strengths, limitations, and challenges
- Course: Becoming a Social Worker, it is very important to understand the worth of self-care. As a social worker, it’s easy to become burned out and to also experience depression. During my time at Southern, I learned what was important to me and what steps I needed to take in order to stay happy. The first thing I did was to write down what I believe my strengths and weaknesses were, what I could and couldn’t handle, and what I was going to allow myself to do. From then on, I printed out a “What To Include” monthly checklist, to make sure self-care was taken care of.
1C Evidence: Exhibit commitment to professional growth through continuing education, supervision, and ongoing consultation
- Field: During my internship, I met with my field instructor once a week to discuss my recent progress and to receive professional feedback. We discussed what practices would be best to help my clients and to help me gain more experience. Each month, I also completed a Monthly Journal. Those journals involved me taking notes on which competencies I included at my practicum for that particular month.
1D Evidence: Demonstrate professional oral and written communication skills
- Course: During each graduate class, I participated in asking questions when needed, by either emailing the professor or asking questions while in class. I also demonstrated professional oral and written communication skill during my Advance Administrative Practice course. My group and I had to create a PowerPoint to present to the class that was about Family Involvement & Engagement Program at Hardy Elementary. In order to present to the class, we had to first write a paper on our subject.
