Career And Self-Care Plan

Self-Care Plan

Throughout my experience being an older adult returning to college, I have an elevated awareness of the importance of self-care. It was a journey running a business, attending school full time, as well as raising a child and still finding the time to incorporate self-care. Some things that I implemented into my schedule and will continue to do so moving forward were walks/hikes, bicycling with my son, and spending time with my dogs. Exercise opens my mind to process the day, creativity, as well as increase my energy level. Moving forward I will continue to incorporate these self-care strategies in order to be healthier and prevent burnout, which allows me to show up as the most authentic, informed, and happiest version of myself.

One Year

This fall I have accepted a position in Hamilton County Schools. Once I receive my master’s degree in August, I plan to continue working in the school system as a social worker. Working in the school system will allow me to use the knowledge and skills that I have learned over the course of time. I will also finish completing my School Social Work Certification. Next, I plan to study and take the licensure exam to become a Licensed Master Social Worker.

Five Year

Looking ahead several years, I plan to have completed the LCSW exam and become a Licensed Clinical Social Worker. I hope to instill confidence in other social workers who may be new to the profession and assist them as others have done for me in the start of this career.

Ten Year

In ten years I hope to be able to take the knowledge I have obtained and either form a non-profit organization or incorporate tele-health operations part-time while also working in the school system, bettering the lives of others. It would be wonderful to still be working/collaborating with some of the amazing supervisors and mentors that I have encountered along the way.
