Engage Anti-racism, Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion in Practice

In advanced social work practice, I engage Anti-racism, Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (ADEI) by analyzing systems and practice settings for inequities and barriers, applying culturally responsive and anti-oppressive frameworks, and demonstrating leadership in strategies that promote equity. I intentionally integrate ADEI principles into assessment, decision-making, supervision/consultation, and service delivery with diverse populations

3.1 Analyze practice settings through an Anti-racism, Diversity, Equity and Inclusion lens.

In SOCW 609 (Advanced Policy), I analyzed Tennessee’s TANF (Families First) system as a practice setting by examining how policy design and implementation contribute to under-enrollment and uneven access to cash assistance and supportive services. Using current data on TANF participation and the state’s large unspent reserve, our policy/advocacy action plan evaluated system-level barriers (e.g., administrative processes, limited local accountability, and inconsistent county-level implementation) that can disproportionately affect families experiencing poverty and historically underserved communities. Based on this analysis, I supported reintroducing HB 0137/SB 0144 with a targeted amendment to establish Direct Access Teams to strengthen local oversight, improve transparency, and help ensure TANF funds are distributed more effectively to eligible families.

Comprehensive Policy Advocacy Action Plan SOCW609

In field practice, I analyzed child welfare service pathways through an ADEI lens by documenting how system-level factors (policy requirements, service availability, transportation barriers, documentation needs, and local resource gaps) shaped family engagement and service outcomes. In de-identified DFCS case notes, I identified access barriers that could contribute to unequal service participation and increased risk (e.g., difficulty securing timely appointments, limited providers in rural areas, and barriers completing required steps). I used an equity-focused approach by coordinating referrals, connecting families to appropriate community supports, and documenting rationale for practice decisions to promote fair access, safety, and dignity in service delivery.

DFCS Child Welfare DEI Case Notes

3.2 Demonstrate leadership in implementing Anti-racism, Diversity, Equity and Inclusion-informed strategies with diverse populations.

In SOCW-612, I demonstrated leadership by collaborating on ADEI-informed recommendations aimed at improving organizational practices. I contributed to solution-focused strategies that supported equitable service delivery, inclusive engagement, and culturally responsive practice within systems serving diverse populations.

Final Program Proposal 612

In field practicum, I demonstrated ADEI leadership through supervision and consultation by raising equity-related considerations in case discussions, reflecting on bias and systemic barriers, and identifying practical strategies to strengthen culturally responsive service delivery. These supervision discussions supported continuous improvement and ethical accountability in work with diverse families.
DEI-Focused Supervision Discussion Logs – DFCS

Integration of 5 Dimensions

Social Work Knowledge Used:
I applied anti-racism and ADEI concepts to evaluate how policies, procedures, and service pathways shape access and outcomes for marginalized youth and families.
