Every person should experience life with their basic needs met, freedom, safety, and education. Social workers understand how unmet needs and unacknowledged human rights contributes to oppression worldwide. As professionals, social workers exercise knowledge and techniques in order to transform structures that create oppression. They actively work to promote environmental, political, cultural, economic, and social justice.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Practice Behaviors\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Apply their understanding of social, economic, and environmental justice to advocate for human rights at the individual and system levels.<\/li>\n<li>Engage in practices that advance social, economic, and environmental justice.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h6>Evidences<\/h6>\n<p><strong>Class:\u00a0<\/strong>While taking SOCW 434 SWIP, I had the opportunity to travel to Washington D.C. to increase my understanding of policy and how to advocate on behalf of others. While there, my classmates and I presented this Policy Brief to a staffer at a Congressman&#8217;s office. Researching this issue and taking action to advocate on behalf of those affected by it was empowering. The following practice behaviors were demonstrated:\u00a0<strong>1 &amp; 2<\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/swpro.org\/darceechristensen\/files\/2019\/02\/SPS-Policy-Brief.jpg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-252 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/swpro.org\/darceechristensen\/files\/2019\/02\/SPS-Policy-Brief.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1554\" height=\"670\" srcset=\"https:\/\/swpro.org\/darceechristensen\/files\/2019\/02\/SPS-Policy-Brief.jpg 1554w, https:\/\/swpro.org\/darceechristensen\/files\/2019\/02\/SPS-Policy-Brief-300x129.jpg 300w, https:\/\/swpro.org\/darceechristensen\/files\/2019\/02\/SPS-Policy-Brief-768x331.jpg 768w, https:\/\/swpro.org\/darceechristensen\/files\/2019\/02\/SPS-Policy-Brief-1024x441.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1554px) 100vw, 1554px\" \/><\/a><strong>Field:\u00a0<\/strong>I increased my understanding of the importance of advocating on behalf of others by attending the Holocaust Museum in Washington D.C. I was deeply impacted and inspired to stand up for those who are oppressed. I came away with a deeper understanding of how intensely people are needed to advocate for human rights still today and wrote a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/swpro.org\/darceechristensen\/files\/2019\/02\/F18C3.1-Holocaust-Museum.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Reflection<\/a>\u00a0of what I learned.
