I will critically review information and seek to utilize evidence-based practices in my work with individuals, communities, and organizations. I will utilize relevant, ethical research to guide my social work practice and establish better means of advancing the purposes of social work. I will uphold a posture of continuous learning and implement practice-informed research such as changing organizational policies to better fit the needs of my client into my work in the field.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;font-size: 14pt\"><b>4.1 &#8211; Critically review current research on evidence based and contemporary best practices to improve practice, policy, and programs.<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000\"><strong>Field Evidence:\u00a0<\/strong>For my <strong><a style=\"color: #000000\" href=\"https:\/\/swpro.org\/hannahborstad\/special-project\/\"><span style=\"color: #333399\">special project<\/span>,<\/a><\/strong> I reviewed research and best practices for organizations with similar programs. I reviewed literature and <span style=\"text-decoration: underline\"><strong>considered<\/strong><\/span> how YHDP&#8217;s practices aligned with recommendations from others. Through this process, I realized that we did not have strong enough requirements for program participants or a clear progression standard for clients. I <span style=\"text-decoration: underline\"><strong>evaluated<\/strong><\/span> better ways to structure our program, <span style=\"text-decoration: underline\"><strong>applied<\/strong><\/span> my knowledge, and <span style=\"text-decoration: underline\"><strong>created<\/strong><\/span> new program policies that required clients to participate in life skills trainings and to obtain employment.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #000000\">Additional Evidence (Course):<\/span>\u00a0<\/strong><strong><span style=\"color: #333399\"><a style=\"color: #333399\" href=\"https:\/\/swpro.org\/hannahborstad\/files\/2024\/08\/SOCW-618-FPCN-Organization-Proposal.pdf\">SOCW 618 FPCN Organization Proposal<\/a><\/span><\/strong> <span style=\"color: #000000\">(pages 42 &#8211; 52)<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;font-size: 14pt\"><b>4.2 &#8211; Conduct and disseminate research that responds to social work practice needs and uses ethical, culturally informed, anti-racist, and anti-oppressive strategies to advance the purposes of social work.<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000\"><strong>Course Evidence:<\/strong> For SOCW 618, my team created a video (<span style=\"text-decoration: underline\"><strong><span style=\"color: #333399;text-decoration: underline\"><a style=\"color: #333399;text-decoration: underline\" href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/0acS9XVlEvY\">Foster Parent Care Network Video<\/a><\/span><\/strong><\/span>) outlining the organization we created and how it met the needs of the community. The video discusses some research and information we gathered to prepare this organization. We used social work knowledge of <span style=\"text-decoration: underline\"><strong>collecting data<\/strong><\/span> and <span style=\"text-decoration: underline\"><strong>researching information<\/strong><\/span> in preparation for creating this presentation. We used the social work skills of <span style=\"text-decoration: underline\"><strong>advocacy<\/strong><\/span> and values of the <strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">dignity and worth of the person<\/span><\/strong> in our presentation.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000\"><strong>Field Evidence:<\/strong> After conducting a survey of all YHDP clients, I used the cognitive process of <span style=\"text-decoration: underline\"><strong>analyzing<\/strong><\/span> and <span style=\"text-decoration: underline\"><strong>evaluating<\/strong><\/span> to review the results. I also used my <span style=\"text-decoration: underline\"><strong>research<\/strong><\/span> and <span style=\"text-decoration: underline\"><strong>organizational skills<\/strong><\/span> to collect the information. I led a staff meeting to review the results and discuss areas of improvement for each of the Case Manager&#8217;s clients. Prior to the staff meeting, I sent out <strong><span style=\"color: #000080\"><a style=\"color: #000080\" href=\"https:\/\/swpro.org\/hannahborstad\/files\/2024\/07\/LIfe-Skills-Survey-Feedback.pdf\">Life Skills Survey Feedback<\/a>\u00a0<\/span><\/strong>with a summary of results from the survey. During the meeting, I reviewed the areas where each of their clients needed the most improvement in their life skills. I asked the Case Managers for feedback on ways they thought the clients could individually improve their skills. I used the affective process of <span style=\"text-decoration: underline\"><strong>listening<\/strong><\/span> and <span style=\"text-decoration: underline\"><strong>receiving<\/strong><\/span> to gain insight into the thoughts and feelings of the Case Managers. I also proposed other opportunities for improving skills such as adding more life skills classes, handing out pamphlets and resources, and meeting one-on-one with clients.
