{"id":116,"date":"2024-01-18T01:04:00","date_gmt":"2024-01-18T01:04:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/swpro.org\/hannahborstad\/?page_id=116"},"modified":"2024-12-11T00:17:28","modified_gmt":"2024-12-11T00:17:28","slug":"competency-8","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/swpro.org\/hannahborstad\/competency-8\/","title":{"rendered":"Competency 8"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: center\"><span style=\"color: #000000;font-size: 18pt\"><b>Competency 8: Intervene with individuals, families, groups, organizations, and communities.<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;color: #000000\">Introduction: As a professional social worker, I will commit to intervening with individuals, families, groups, organizations, and communities by collaborating with clients and using evidence-based strategies.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;font-size: 14pt\"><b>8.1 &#8211; Implement clinical evidence-based interventions with individuals, families, and\/or groups<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000\"><strong>Course Evidence:<\/strong> For <span style=\"font-weight: 400\">SOCW 617 &#8211; Advanced Clinical Practice, I developed a faux group counseling session to demonstrate my ability to use evidence-based clinical interventions with individuals. The Group Intervention Assignment Live Presentation demonstrates the use of therapeutic factors. I used my skills of <span style=\"text-decoration: underline\"><strong>active listening, communication, and empathy<\/strong><\/span> to develop this group. I also used my<span style=\"text-decoration: underline\"><strong> technology<\/strong><\/span> skills to produce this video on Zoom and edit the footage to meet the assignment requirements.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"SOCW 617 Group Therapy Video Midterm\" width=\"900\" height=\"506\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/3XxmtkO1fHU?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000\"><strong>Field Evidence:<\/strong> For my practicum, I led a <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;color: #000080\"><strong><a style=\"color: #000080;text-decoration: underline\" href=\"https:\/\/swpro.org\/hannahborstad\/files\/2024\/09\/Self-Care-Group-Notes.pdf\">Self-Care Group<\/a><\/strong><\/span> for women in the YHDP program. I used my knowledge of <span style=\"text-decoration: underline\"><strong>Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT)<\/strong><\/span> and my social work values of <strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">self-determination, dignity and worth of the person<\/span>,<\/strong> and the <span style=\"text-decoration: underline\"><strong>importance of human relationships<\/strong><\/span> to guide develop and lead the Self-Care Group.\u00a0 The group consisted of young adult females experiencing homelessness. The first group consisted of five sessions over the summer centered around DBT principles. The concepts for this group are based on <span style=\"text-decoration: underline\"><strong>Social Learning Theory<\/strong><\/span>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;font-size: 14pt\"><b>8.2 &#8211; Integrate macro level evidence-based strategies with organizations and\/or communities<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"><strong>Course Evidence:<\/strong> For SOCW 612 &#8211; Advanced Administrative Practice: Program Development, my group developed a <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;color: #000080\"><strong><a style=\"color: #000080;text-decoration: underline\" href=\"https:\/\/swpro.org\/hannahborstad\/files\/2024\/12\/612-Needs-Assessment-and-Program-Proposal-Plan-Paper.pdf\">612 Needs Assessment and Program Proposal Plan Paper<\/a><\/strong><\/span> (page 59) for a proposed program. The program would provide mentorship for children in foster care who have behavioral difficulties. I used my knowledge of <span style=\"text-decoration: underline\"><strong>evidence-based best<\/strong> <\/span>practice and <span style=\"text-decoration: underline\"><strong>goal setting<\/strong><\/span> to formulate the model.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000\"><strong>Field Evidence:\u00a0<\/strong>In my practicum, I led a staff meeting with my team to develop a<\/span> <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;color: #000080\"><strong><a style=\"color: #000080;text-decoration: underline\" href=\"https:\/\/swpro.org\/hannahborstad\/files\/2024\/09\/Logic-Model-YHDP.pdf\">Logic Model<\/a> <\/strong><\/span><span style=\"color: #000000\">for the Council on Accreditation review. I used the affective domain of <span style=\"text-decoration: underline\"><strong>listening<\/strong><\/span> and <span style=\"text-decoration: underline\"><strong>receiving<\/strong><\/span> feedback from my team to formulate a logic model for our program. I used the cognitive domain of evaluating and analyzing to create SMART goals and complete the domains of the logic model. I then presented the logic model to the CEO and COA team to educate the group on our program and its objectives.
