Intervention is recognized as social workers to be a continuous component of their professional practice when working with, and on behalf of, diverse clientele. Social workers value and are educated on evidence-based interventions that will achieve and aid the goals of the clients they are working with. Theories of human behavior and the social environment are understood by social workers who use these to critically evaluate and apply this knowledge to properly intervene with clients. Social workers recognize and use evidence-based interventions to achieve the goals of the client. Social workers also value working together and the importance of inter-professional relationships. Social workers:
-
- critically choose and implement interventions to achieve practice goals and enhance capacities of clients and constituencies;
- apply knowledge of human behavior and the social environment, person-in-environment, and other multidisciplinary theoretical frameworks in interventions with clients and constituencies;
- use inter-professional collaboration as appropriate to achieve beneficial practice outcomes;
- negotiate, mediate, and advocate with and on behalf of diverse clients and constituencies; and
- facilitate effective transitions and endings that advance mutually agreed-on goals.
Field Evidence
Inter-professional collaboration has been a huge part of my learning experience at Welcome Home. My supervisor had the other intern and I visit and meet with multiple agencies to understand what resources and interventions were in our community. We attended multiple coalition meetings as well to work with other professionals to provide the best service possible to our clients. This school year I also had the opportunity to apply for a disability placard for one of my residents who really needed it. It was great intervening and being able to help in this way.
Academic Evidence
Throughout my time in the social work program, I have had multiple opportunities to demonstrate my intervention skills. I was able to write a mini-grant proposal to seek funding for mental health services on Southern Adventist University’s campus. I also had a peer review and critique a group session of mine and from this feedback, I was able to change the way I led the group and implement different interventions.
