As a social worker, it is important to display ethical and professional behavior when engaging with others. One example of professionalism is by adhering to the Code of Ethics at all times. I continue to practice this competency by aiming to display cultural competence to clients, other professionals, and society. In order to serve others and provide the proper assistance, one must practice critical thinking skills and professional judgment. I persist to utilize various theories, apply ethical principles and ethical standards in the delivery of services on the micro, mezzo, and macro levels. Another form of professional behavior is continuing education. I will continue to increase knowledge and refine my skills for best practices and serve others. Overall, this competency ensures personal and social lifelong learning within social work. \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

1A – Develop a practice framework for analysis of complex environments, that is ethical, value-grounded, and evidenced-based<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n

Course Evidence:<\/strong><\/span>In my School Social Work Foundation class, I completed a self-reflection paper (cognitive level: knowledge) regarding my personal values and school social work practice levels to analyze areas of greatest concern. Also, in the paper I used a framework for making an ethical decision within a school setting. I applied the NASW Code of Ethics for School Social Workers and the Supplemental Ethical Standards for School Social Workers in a case scenario to address an ethical dilemma. As ethical dilemmas can be challenging at times, I do my best to be transparent with others, as this provides the value of integrity. Other:\u00a0<\/strong>During COVID-19, to practice this competency, I created an informational session for survivors of domestic violence for women living in Collegedale, Tennessee.\u00a0 This project was not implemented but I practiced presenting with my field instructor. 1B – Implement supervisory and self-care strategies that integrate professional strengths, limitations, and challenges<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n

Field Evidence:<\/strong> Each week for practicum, I had supervision with my field instructor to review concerns, questions, and areas for improvement. When I needed further assistance I would always consult with the field director, task supervisor, or the school counselor. I documented weekly my experiences in a journal log. 1C – Exhibit commitment to professional growth through continuing education, supervision, and ongoing consultation<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n

Field Evidence:<\/strong> I attended the Question, Persuade, Refer Suicide Prevention Training, provided by the Tennessee Suicide Prevention Network. This training broadened my knowledge on how to evaluate and screen individuals that reflect suicidal behaviors. With the helpful information, I was able to know how to screen for suicide ideation when conducting an intake for potential clients at the counseling center. <\/span>(Affective level: receiving).<\/span>To view the certificate, please click Here<\/a><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

1D – Demonstrate professional oral and written communication skills<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n

Course Evidence:<\/strong> In my School Social Work Intermed 1 class, I created a powerpoint presentation on the National School Lunch Act of 1946.
