9: Respond to Contexts

(9.1) Continuously discover, appraise, and attend to changing locales, populations, scientific and technological developments, and emerging societal trends to provide relevant services.

Field: In society today, the trend of social media can be a major factor in providing services. I articulated my understanding of social media as a relevant societal trend by applying aspects of social media in long-term care facilities to the HIPAA regulations through a PowerPoint that I created for a quarterly volunteer training at my agency: Implications of HIPAA on Professionals Working with Older Adults (PowerPoint).

Class: This literature review paper that I completed in Human Behavior and the Social Environment I (HBSE 311), discusses the many facets and viewpoints surrounding the global sex-trafficking and prostitution industries, and how helping professionals might be able to better assist these populations.

(9.2) Provide leadership in promoting sustainable changes in service delivery and practice to improve the quality of social services.

Field: I attended the Annual Alzheimer’s Caregivers’ Conference with representatives from Elder Services. We handed out materials to help caregivers in the community become aware of services available to them.

Class: In the class Social Work Practice with Groups and Organizations (SOCW 319), we each had the opportunity to complete a mini grant proposal that taught us another way in which we can advocate for the quality of services for our clients.
