Competency 4: Research

Engage in practice-informed research and research-informed practice

As a social worker, part of my role is to produce research-informed practice. As a result of this role, I seek to observe the standards of researchers and use reliable sources of information to help the population I serve. I will engage in quantitative and qualitative research methods when necessary and seek to understand the true issues that the individuals, groups, or systems that I work within or with are facing. I have demonstrated in the following practice behavior through school work and practicum, my dedication to fulfilling this competency.

Discuss critical thinking to engage in analysis of quantitative and qualitative research methods and research findings

Practice Behaviors

1. Use practice experience and theory to inform scientific inquiry and research.

2. Apply critical thinking to engage in analysis of quantitative and qualitative research methods and research findings.

3. Use and translate research evidence to inform and improve practice, policy, and service delivery.

Academic Evidence

I have written a literature review that seeks to explore How Domestic Abuse Occurs in Male Same-Sex Relationships. During this time, I had the opportunity to present the findings for Campus Research Day.

Internship Evidence

During my time in the Pediatrics Intensive Care Unit (PICU), I had an opportunity to conduct my first assessment without supervision. Prior to meeting with a Spanish-speaking family I referred to an assessment guide provided by the North American Association of Christians in Social Work Convention in 2014. I used the research evidence to inform how I delivered my practice.
