Competency 9: Evaluate Individuals, Families, Groups, Organizations, and Communities

Evaluation is the final competency that emphasizes the ongoing process of evaluating our intervention and assessment methods on behalf of our clients, families, groups, organizations and communities. Recognizing the importance of evaluation allows us to view the process and outcomes to advance not only our practice, but policy and service as well. As Social Workers we use qualitative and quantitative methods to evaluate effectiveness, allowing us to improve our delivery.

For competency 9 I used my knowledge of the importance of attending field practicum supervision to review my caseload’s individual treatment goals that were met or unmet upon the termination of clients to retrieve evidence of efficacy of therapy services through Centerstone (9.1). I demonstrate the value of integrity in acting honestly and responsibly by utilizing supervision to promote ethical practices on the part of Centerstone. During my coursework, I utilized the skills of critical thinking to make corrections of my practice during the transcription of the 20 min CBT final video (9.1). The cognitive and affective processes I used were evaluation and resolving. The theoretical model I used was person in environment theory, that states that a person is heavily influenced by their environment; and their problems and issues can be largely understood by environmental influences.

During my field practicum I used a 5-question pre and posttest to retrieve how effective Centerstone services were in providing anger management psycho educational groups to students at Goal Academy (9.2). During my coursework, my group created an evaluation plan containing 3 surveys(9.2). One survey was used to identify if needs were being met and the benefits, consequences, and reactions of all participants of the program. Another survey was made for all staff that would evaluate if participants were being reached and if resources were being delivered as intended. The next set of surveys were done at the end of the whole program, which would happen on the last day of the program.
