Competency 8 – Intervention

Intervening in issues and situations is an important component of what social work do. Social workers use different interventions and practices to guide their work. This competency ensures that social workers understand that intervention is an ongoing component of social work practice. To meet this competency I used application as the cognitive domain and responding as the affective domain. The theories utilized are ultimate terms and priming. By meeting this competency I demonstrate that I am knowledgeable about evidence-informed interventions and that I understand theories of human behavior and the social environment, and critically evaluate and apply this knowledge in social work practice. As a social worker I vow to value the importance of interprofessional teamwork and communication in interventions, recognizing that beneficial outcomes may require interdisciplinary, interprofessional, and inter-organizational collaboration.

Practice Behaviors:

8.1 Implement clinical evidence-based interventions with individuals, families, and/or groups

Field Evidence: I demonstrated this practice behavior by implementing Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) interventions with my caseload. I also demonstrated this with the evidence-based curriculum my co-facilitator and I created for the generational trauma group we conducted.

 

 

Academic Evidence: I demonstrated this practice behavior by implementing Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) with my pseudo client for my Advanced Clinical Practice course. This video demonstrated the application of the skills I learned in this course. I also presented an evidence-based group powerpoint based on generational trauma in Dalton High School and how to help students learn coping skills.

 

8.2 Integrate macro level evidence-based strategies with organizations and/or communities

Field Evidence: I demonstrated this practice behavior by creating and delivering an ACEs Presentation. I educated social work professionals on ACEs and provided evidence-based interventions to help alleviate symptoms associated with a high ACE score.

 

Academic Evidence: I demonstrated this by collaborating with classmates in creating a pseudo organization and writing a paper describing the overall organization flow and sustainability. This organization was created with the purpose of serving the Latino community at a macro level.
