Competency 3 – Human Rights & Justice

I will engage in practices that will advance social, economic, and environmental justice. I will apply my understanding of social, economic, and environmental justice in order to advocate for human rights at the individual and system levels. Every person, regardless of their position in society, has fundamental human rights such as freedom, safety, privacy, an adequate standard of living, health care, and education. I will strive to understand the global interconnections of oppression and human rights violations. I will strive to become more knowledgeable about theories of human need and social justice and strategies to promote social and economic justice and human rights. I will be able to understand strategies designed to eliminate oppressive structural barriers to ensure that social goods, rights, and responsibilities are distributed equitably and that civil, political, environmental, economic, social, and cultural human rights are protected.

Evidence

3A – Demonstrate leadership in advocating for human rights, social, economic, and environmental justice

Course Evidence: In Advanced Administration II, our group created an organization that sought to improve the lives of persons who had adverse experiences that resulted in trauma at any point in their lives. The group organization proposal would provide counseling, EMDR therapy, and support groups to these individuals. As a result, over time, the providing of these services could lead to a better quality of life, decrease the general cycle of poverty, addiction, and community violence. Please see how we structured our Organizational Proposal.

Field Evidence: During my field practice, I had to demonstrate leadership by advocating for my individual therapy clients’ rights on multiple occasions—this involved referrals and communication with community and agency resources. Please see my Journal Entries, which thoroughly demonstrate this evidence.

3B – Design and implement social action strategies

Course Evidence: This semester in Advanced Policy class, group members and myself designed a fact sheet that focuses on expanding Telehealth services indefinitely. The bill our group looked at to address gaps in healthcare services was SB 8003-HB 8002. The social action strategy we address in our Fact Sheet is bringing awareness to how inadequate the healthcare system is, and through the implementation of Telehealth services, gaps can be addressed.
