About Me

My name is Ilsia Bonilla and I was born and raised in Long Island, NY. I am currently pursuing a master’s degree in Social Work at Southern Adventist University in Collegedale, TN. The time I have spent in Tennessee, sparked a new passion of mine. School Social Work! Working with adolescents in their prime developmental years has allowed me to provide early intervention to reduce the risk of negative pathways in adulthood.

To this date, I see myself growing stronger as an essential advocate for my community. I am grateful for all the experiences I have encountered throughout this journey. I have connected with many students from different walks of life and they have motivated me to reflect on my own beliefs. My passion for social injustice stems from my own experiences as a second-generation immigrant. Although I was born in the United States, I know what it is like to experience culture shock and feel like an outsider.

My lived and professional experiences has prepared me to not be afraid to SERVE. I am excited to have successfully completed my undergraduate and graduate studies in the field of social work. My studies have taught me to not only use my skills effectively but to customize them to create individualized experiences for all of my students. One size does not fit all but I can always be that one supportive adult in a child’s life.
