While interning at the American Red Cross, I used crisis intervention assessments, such as Suicide Assessment, that I learned about in my Crisis and Emergency Management courses to help clients who expressed having a difficult time and did not know if they could handle everything going on. By using this model and showing empathy and active listening skills, I helped clients stabilize and be able to start thinking about their recovery process. Using the suicide assessment allowed me to ensure that the clients did not have a plan and a low lethality.
