During my practicum, I facilitated different presentations to the community. The Pillow Project was presented to elementary children to aid in their understanding of how to respond and maintain safety during a fire. The Be Ready presentation was presented to older adults and people that are deaf and hard of hearing to equip them to prepare for a disaster, especially tornados. During smoke alarm installations, I taught community members how to get out of their homes safely and what steps to take to mitigate fires.

During my practicum, I communicated with clients via email and text messages, ensuring that the clients knew who would be contacting them and couple of immediate resources to utilize during their recovery.
Examples of the informational texts and emails sent to clients:
As soon as the case was assigned text: Hello…. I am Angela, your recovery care worker with the American Red Cross. I am contacting you to introduce myself and see how your recovery is going. I work with our clients following the fire to help answer questions and share information about community resources that may provide support as you recover. Please feel free to test me back or call (my number). Here are a couple of resources that many of our clients find helpful. When you have a few minutes, explore resoures.redcross.org. It is a resource hub that is searchable by zip code and can provide information on resources, from legal aid to emergency food aid. Additionally, calling United Way’s 211 or going to 211.org can provide local resources. United Way can offer referrals for specific needs. I will reach out in a few days to talk about any other specific needs you may have and share any resources that may be helpful. Please feel free to reach out with any questions or concerns. Warm Regards, Angela American Red Cross SETN
Ending the case with the client email:
